description
Approach and maritime conditions: The center of Ålesund is divided into two by the transverse Brosundet and the inner harbor. Only small boats can pass through Brosundet from the south, and you enter the harbor from the north side. The guest harbor in Ålesund consists of floating docks, which you will see right in front of you as you enter the harbor. The approach to the harbor is straightforward, with a few well-marked skerries (e.g., Olsskjer). There is quite a bit of activity in Ålesund harbor, and you should be particularly mindful of the fast boats (ferries) that frequently dock at Skansekaia. You should avoid passing through the harbor entrance when the ferries are going in or out of the harbor. The rapid arrivals also create some waves and currents around the guest harbor, and you should take this into account when fendering and mooring.
Mooring: The guest harbor in Ålesund has a floating dock running along the shore, and two floating docks extending from it. On the two extending floating docks, you moor alongside. If there are few boats in the harbor, you can also lie alongside on the innermost floating dock, but when the harbor fills up, you line up with the short side. You get lateral support from the two extending floating docks.
The area: Ålesund is a compact and beautiful city centrally located in the inner shipping lane along the coast. The guest harbor is closely surrounded by buildings in Art Nouveau style. A little east in the center lies the Aksla viewpoint, which you reach via 418 steps. On the north side of Aksla is also "Borgernes Vei", which is good for walking and running (5 km each way).
